"The Mushrooms" in Ropeid
Ropeid is a peninsula in the municipality of Suldal in Rogaland. There are several smaller hamlets on the peninsula, as well as a quay for speedboats that take travellers to Sauda and Stavanger.
The waiting room has large glass panes that allow proximity to fjords and mountains. The architectural firms Jensen and Skodvin designed the unique glass building.
In 2021, small and large furniture elements such as stools and tables were built from materials from recycled plastic boats from Ryfylke, as well as lanterns and lamps. They now stand as clusters of artificial "mushrooms" in the rest area. In the evening hours, the area is transformed and the mushrooms start to glow, almost to float. The effect was achieved with the VarioLED™ Flex IP67 light line, which indirectly illuminates the undersides of the recycled objects.
