With The Charter Building, the team of architects took on a 1980s ground scraper, a ‘fully glazed box’ which was the former UK headquarter of Coca-Cola. Their architectural makeover is now breathing new life into the office building which was suffering from outdated and tired design. The architects solution saw the introduction of a 100-metre long ‘street’ in the heart of the building, formed by enclosing the existing atrium. By varying the ceiling heights and providing pockets of space for waiting or meeting, they have created both amenity and interest. Office floors deliver contemporary working environments that encourage movement and fluidity, provide break-out areas and seating for collaboration, communication and creativity. This creates a modern company’s look which can also be felt in the entrance area. The lobby has been conceived as a collaborative workspace as well as space for reception and concierge services. A concrete-tiled flooring and wood paneling on the walls together with an exceptional reception desk formed of 3 layers of wood in a pentagon shape are offering an atmospheric entrance. In the reception desk the VarioLED™ Flex VENUS TV W825 was installed in indirect niches following the curvature of the desk. The indirect warm and dot free light is a warm welcome to visitors and gives the construction something organic. XOOLINE™ HD15 W830 was installed within the handrail detail, illuminating downwards and supporting spatial orientation of the visitors. At the south entrance reception reveal, the MARS LD10 W830 was used recessed in the top of the reveal. In the wall niche VarioLED™ Flex HYDRA HD10 was installed concealed along the top of the niche in a 45 degree profile.
